Former local up for award
A former Port Lincoln woman is among three finalists for the 2018 South Australian AgriFutures Rural Women’s Awards, recognising their leadership qualities and commitment to regional South Australian industries, business and communities.
Alex Thomas is a part time carer for her father who was permanently injured from his life’s work in the agriculture industry.
She wants to stop work-related serious injuries and fatalities in agriculture by leveraging her personal experiences and role as a work health and safety consultant.
Her aim is to shift the conversation around industry safety from one of compliance to a positive discussion led by industry by launching the #PlantASeedForSafety social media campaign.
A range of online work health and safety tools for easy download would complement the campaign.
The winner will be announced at the 2018 Thriving Women’s Conference on Monday, February 19 and will go on to represent South Australia at the national awards in September.
